Tips & Recommendations

Recommended

Of the three Tamiya control tyres, the Tamiya Semi-slicks give the best results. However, many of our racers are switching over use Rush 30 pre-glued tyre sets.

New tyres also need time to bed in. Scuffing your tyres with some fine sandpaper can help to remove the initial ‘shine’, but don’t go overboard.

Tip

A set of good, well-maintained bearings can make a big difference.

Carpet strands and dust can get pulled in, reducing performance. A regular clean and re-oil works wonders.

Tip

It is better to have the front diff tighter than the rear.

Tamiya anti-wear grease or putty is great for tuning.

But remember, it must still function as a differential when tested.

Getting Started with Tamiya Tourers

The primary aim of this class is to attract new racers to the hobby while keeping costs down.

It is also a great class for seasoned racers looking for close racing on a budget.

Suitable kits for this class, as detailed in the rules section, can be found in most model shops in the UK and online.

Below is an outline of the basic kit and essentials to get you started.

The basic Starting blocks

Raikiri GT TT-02 kit - £115.00

This is an example of a cheap base TT-02 kit.

When choosing your kit, check to see if it comes with a 540 Torque-Tuned motor and an ESC that fits the class rules. This will save you having to purchase these separately.

Total cost (less radio gear and batteries) to get started would be approximately £185.

This cost can be reduced further by shopping around and looking for kits on sale.

Some recommended Upgrades

These are some recommended upgrades, consumables and optional parts to add reliability and performance to your tourer.

There are many other upgrades that you can choose to use to add both performance and extra durability. Just be sure to check that they are permitted under the rules above.

You will also need to have a radio gear, steering servo, batteries, charger and lipo bag.

And finally, you need a transponder, which costs around £45, but the club has a few handout transponders that can be borrowed initially.
