SRCC Rules
General rules
Please be sure to read both these general rules and the rules relevant to the class you wish to race in.
These rules were last updated 15/01/2026. SRCC reserves the right to amend these rules without notice.
Smoking of any kind is prohibited at SRCC.
In the UK, schools are required to have a “no smoking or vaping” policy on their premises, meaning that neither students, staff, nor visitors can smoke or vape anywhere on school grounds, including inside buildings and outside areas like playgrounds, due to the law prohibiting smoking in enclosed public spaces and the ability for schools to set their own vaping policies.
Kemnal Technology College will suspend the use of its facilities if any of our participants or spectators are observed smoking on its premises.
Anyone seen or reported to be smoking at SRCC will be excluded and asked to leave.
Batteries must be 3.7V (1 cell) 7.4v or 7.6v (2 cell), commercially available (in the UK) hard case LiPo batteries.
Batteries shall be charged to a maximum of 4.20V for single cell and 8.40v for double cell, whilst connected to a charger/discharger.
Batteries must be securely placed in a LiPo sack whilst charging or discharging.
Batteries shall be charged or discharged using a LiPo charger on the LiPo settings and should not be charged in excess of a 1C charge rate, due to limitations with the electrical supply within the hall. When discharging, this must not be in excess of the manufacturer’s guidelines or over 20A, whichever is lower.
No heating or cooling of cells is allowed during charging or discharging.
Your charger must not (at any point in time, whether a battery is connected/charging or not) be set with a cut-off voltage higher than 4.20v per cell. Anyone found with a charger setting higher than this will be deemed to be deliberately overcharging their battery, which will not be tolerated on safety grounds. Any driver found with a charger set higher than 4.20v per cell may be excluded from the event.
Any person found charging without a LIPO sack will not be allowed to race; persistent offenders may be asked to leave. Repeat offenders will be reported to the BRCA. If in doubt, ask!
Only MR33 V4 or V5 may be used
They have been specifically developed for carpet racing using rubber or foam tyres.
No other additive will be permitted.
Body posts shall be trimmed so that no more than 3 additional holes are visible and the top chamfered. This is to prevent damage to the carpet and marshals
The bodyshell shall be free of sharp edges along all edges, again to prevent damage to the carpet and to marshals who will handle the car.
The bodyshell must not rub on the carpet whilst the race is in progress. The race director may ask to remove any car that presents a hazard to the track, either due to a damaged car or body shell/mounting.
Non-compliant cars may not be allowed to race.
Decisions are at the discretion of Race Control.
All drivers are expected to marshal the race following their own.
Where drivers are participating in two classes, we will try to space heats so that it is possible; if that is not possible, then it is up to the driver concerned to arrange marshalling cover where required.
Any parent or helper may marshal, provided they have either a current BRCA Membership or a BRCA Non-driving Membership. Any person not holding either of these accreditations is not allowed on the track whilst racing is in progress. Racing is in progress from the start of practice through to the end of the last final.
The maximum number of drivers in a single heat shall be 8.
Due to time constraints on the hire of the hall, the maximum number of heats should be six on a race night.
If on any given race night, the number of drivers entering a class is insufficient (typically 3 drivers or less), they may be merged with another, similarly capable class to provide fair racing.
Affected drivers shall be informed, and if they do not wish to participate in the combined class, they can be refunded if they do not want to partake in any event that night.
All drivers shall have a valid BRCA licence or provide proof, via email, that they have a current, valid membership.
Drivers shall behave with respect to each other, to marshals and club officials.
All drivers should follow the BRCA #RaceWithRespect – https://www.brca.org/racer-hub/race-with-respect, guidelines at all times.
Spectators are always welcome at our meetings. However, we must insist that any viewing of racing is done from the pit area. This is the area from the extreme right-hand side of the carpet racing surface towards the rear wall of the hall, viewed from the door looking into the hall.
Only card-carrying BRCA members are allowed on the track once racing commences. This is to ensure, as far as possible, the safety of all.
Tamiya Tourers Rules
This class aims to attract new racers to the hobby while keeping costs down. The kits listed can be found in most model shops in the UK.
Minimal hop-ups are listed to keep racing close. You don’t have to buy them, but if you fancy tinkering and learning new skills with your model, you may do so.
Eligible Chassis kits:
- TT-01
- TT-01E
- TT-02
- TT-02D (only with permitted motor and tyres).
The following Chassis kits are not permitted:
- TT-02 Type S
- TT-02 Type SR
- TT-02 Type SRX
- TT-02R
- TT-02RR
Modification to the battery compartment on the TT-01 must be sympathetic.
TT-02 may only use the standard kit, shiny black plastic chassis. Use of the carbon plastic reinforced chassis is prohibited.
No carbon fibre chassis permitted.
- Tamiya Kit supplied speed controller (ESC), TBLE-02S or TBLE-04S
- Hobbywing 1060 ESC (Recommended)
No additional capacitor packs or electronic packs allowed on either speed controller option. It is permitted to change the connector on the ESC to suit the battery.
- 54358 – Tamiya Silver Torque Tuned motor (Kit Motor).
The motors must remain un-tampered; however, cleaning of the motor is allowed. This includes the use of cleaning fluids, cotton buds and fibre comm sticks.
Running in/comm drops and lubricants are permitted.
- TT-01/E (Max 19T Pinion & Kit 61T Spur Gear) – 8.35 FDR
- TT-02/D (Max 22T Pinion & Kit 70T Spur Gear) – 8.27 FDR
A differential must be fitted and used on the drive wheels from the motor.
- You can tune your diffs using oil, grease or putty.
- The differentials must not be locked and must still function as a differential when tested.
- Spools or diff lockers are strictly prohibited.
Tyres:
- Tamiya kit slicks: #50454
- Tamiya kit radials: #50419
- Tamiya semi-slicks: #50810 (Recommended)
Inserts:
- Tamiya Hard Inner Sponge Set #53156
- Tamiya Racing Radial/Slick Inner Sponge Set #53113 (softer)
Rims:
- Any rim design may be used, with the exception of dished.
- Only the specific tyres detailed above shall be used.
Pre-glued tyre sets:
- Rush 30CPM (set of 4). #SCH-RU0445 (Recommended)
Additive:
- Only MR33 V4 or V5 may be used
Any commercially available 190mm, standard weight shell, or Tamiya kit or body shell that has a likeness of a real road car, GT, DTM, saloon or rally car, that fits the TT01/TT02 chassis without modification.
No LMP style body shells are to be used.
If you are unsure if a particular shell is compliant, please ask.
Each chassis must be built as per the kit instructions.
The following Tamiya & Non-Tamiya hardware optional parts are permitted:
- Screws, Shims & Ball joints
- Ball-race bearings (Recommended)
- Oil Shocks (Recommended)
- Adjustable Steering turnbuckles and Servo arm (Recommended)
- High torque servo saver
- Aluminium/Alloy steering set
- Motor heatsinks and/or cooling fan
- Aluminium/Alloy Motor mount
- Aluminium prop-shaft and input shaft kit
- Alloy hub carriers
- Aluminium wheel hexes
- CVD Driveshaft’s & Diff Cups (front & rear axle)
- Body posts #51242 or similar (To allow mounting the body further forward)
- Oil-filled sealed differentials may be used, but must retain the stock gearing (i.e. 39T ring gear)
If a modification is not listed above, then it is not permitted.
All cars must maintain a ground clearance of 5mm; no screw or fitting should protrude below the bottom of the chassis.
Ground clearance is defined as follows: – the club’s 5mm gauge should be able to pass under the car from front to rear and from side to side when the car is standing in race-ready condition without the car moving.
Any movement of the car, either laterally or vertically, will be deemed a failure.
Cars must weigh a minimum of 1350 grams (including personal transponder, excluding handout transponder), ready to race, including bodyshell.
Any commercially available 2S Lipo. Solid cased racing packs only (soft cased model aircraft packs not permitted on safety grounds).
LiPo must be in a hard casing; refer to the SRCC general rules for further information on safe usage and maximum cell voltage.
Any commercially available 7.2v NiMH stick pack.
Any commercially available RC equipment functioning on the 27 MHz, 40 MHz or 2.4 GHz bands is acceptable.
Any servo may be used.
FWD Touring Car Rules
Any 1/10th scale FWD touring car chassis (Xray, Schumacher, Yokomo, Tamiya, etc) may be used. The underside of the chassis shall be smooth and free of any loose screws or other projections that may damage the carpet.
The BRCA 10th scale electric circuit rules should be adhered to in addition to those detailed herein. In the event of any conflict between these rules and the SRCC club rules, the SRCC club rules shall prevail.

- Only MR33 V4 or V5 Carpet Additive may be used
Any Front Wheel Drive bodyshell approved by the BRCA or ETS and meeting industry-recognised dimensions.
Only wings included with the body shells may be used, cut out, and mounted exactly as intended by the original manufacturer.
All cars must maintain a ground clearance of 5mm; no screw or fitting should protrude below the bottom of the chassis.
Ground clearance is defined as follows: the club’s 5mm gauge should be able to pass under the car from front to rear and from side to side when the car is standing in race-ready condition without the car moving.
Any movement of the car, either laterally or vertically, will be deemed a failure.
Cars must weigh a minimum of 1250 grams (including personal transponder, excluding handout transponder), ready to race, including bodyshell.
Any commercially available 2S Lipo. Solid cased racing packs only (soft cased model aircraft packs not permitted on safety grounds).
LiPo must be in a hard casing; refer to the SRCC general rules for further information on safe usage and maximum cell voltage.
Any commercially available RC equipment functioning on the 27 MHz, 40 MHz or 2.4 GHz bands is acceptable.
Any servo may be used.
1:10th Touring Car Rules
Any 1/10th scale touring car chassis (Xray, Schumacher, Tamiya, etc) may be used.
The underside of the chassis shall be smooth and free of any loose screws or other projections that may damage the carpet.
The BRCA 10th scale electric circuit rules should be adhered to in addition to those detailed herein. In the event of any conflict between these rules and the SRCC club rules, the SRCC club rules shall prevail.
Any speed controller may be used, but it must be set to “Blinky” mode.
Brushless motors may be used with 17.5 Turn limit (17.5 turns or more).
- Rubber Slick tyres of suitable type only to be used.
- Only MR33 V4 or V5 Carpet Additive may be used
Mini pin or block-type tyres shall not be used.
Any 1/10th saloon racing body shell may be used. Refer to the SRCC general rules for additional guidance.
All cars must maintain a ground clearance of 5mm; no screw or fitting should protrude below the bottom of the chassis.
Ground clearance is defined as follows: – the club’s 5mm gauge should be able to pass under the car from front to rear and from side to side when the car is standing in race-ready condition without the car moving.
Any movement of the car, either laterally or vertically, will be deemed a failure.
Cars must weigh a minimum of 1300 grams (including personal transponder, excluding handout transponder), ready to race, including bodyshell.
Any commercially available 2S Lipo. Solid cased racing packs only (soft cased model aircraft packs not permitted on safety grounds).
LiPo must be in a hard casing; refer to the SRCC general rules for further information on safe usage and maximum cell voltage.
Any commercially available RC equipment functioning on the 27 MHz, 40 MHz or 2.4 GHz bands is acceptable.
Any servo may be used.
Ministox Rules
This class is based on the principles of close, fair, and low-cost racing. Suggested makes include the Mardave Assassin, Kamtec Mini Racer & Battcave JOK3R chassis.
Performance is limited by construction, and cars should be run “out of the box,” with only minor modifications such as manufacturer-produced parts.
- Cars may use any make of clear Lexan Austin/Morris/BL Mini shells (NO ABS).
- No convertibles or pick-ups can be run.
- Body shell Kit supplied wings/spoilers are allowed, but must be to the following dimensions.
- 160mm wide (max).
- 35mm depth +/- 3mm.
- 25mm side height +/- 2mm.
- 15mm max height from the top of the shell.
- Windows must be clear, no tint or blackout.
- Headlamps and grills must be defined. Lights are not to be used on the car.
- Shells must have no sharp edges that could cause harm to other racers/marshals or damage to the carpet.
- Shells must run a minimum clearance of 4mm.
- Body and chassis must be securely joined at all times while the car is on the track.
- The wheel rim diameter (not the tyre) maximum is 40mm, and 26mm width.
- Wheels must be fixed using a single fixing.
- Only MR33 V4 or V5 tyre treatments are permitted.
- Wheel nuts and/or axles must not protrude more than 2.0mm beyond the outer edge of the wheels. No more than 1.5mm of the wheel outer side may be exposed (not covered with foam) on the outer edge of wheels.
- Rigid bumpers made from non-resilient materials such as metal are not allowed. Other sheet materials should be no thinner than 1.5mm; anyone found to be repeatedly damaging the track markings or other racers’ cars due to running big bumpers will be asked to change to a softer construction of bumper.
- The minimum ground clearance of the car, excluding the spur gear, is 4mm.
Any 25.5 turn or higher brushless fixed-timing, sensored motor. Motors must be readily available.
Recommended
- Hobbywing G2.1 25.5 FTM
- BattCave IMPOST3R 30.5T fixed timing brushless motor
- Surpass Rocket Supersonic 25.5 FTM
Brushless ESC
The following types shall be used:
- XR10 JUST STOCK Zero Timing (HW3011200)
- XR10 JUST STOCK G3 (HW30112003)
- XR10 JUST STOCK G3s (HW30112005)
- Surpass Supersonic ESC
- Team Powers XPS Sport V4BT (TPR-XPS/Sport-V4BT-2S-EXT)
Other ESCs need to be submitted to the club for review; they must meet the following criteria:
- Can be run in Blinky mode only
- £75 max limit
- Mardave G2 F20 (#G2 F20)*
- Core 21 Silver Can (#CR711)*
- Etronix Sport 540 Tuned Stock 20T (ET0320)*
These cannot be tampered with in any way. Motors may be water bathed. Motor additives are allowed. Motor Spacers can be used.
Brushed ESC
Any commercially available brushed speed controller with a list price of less than £60.
*to be used with 4-cell Sub-C Metal Hydride battery pack.
For the 2025 session, gearing is now open (pinion and spur) but restricted to 32dp.
Commercially available foam tyres of suitable type, such as Contact, JFT, and Mardave / Kamtec, are to be used.
Only MR33 V4 or V5 Carpet Additive may be used.
- The main chassis component will consist of one continuous sheet of material. It can be either fibreglass, carbon, or aluminium.
- The overall maximum width of the rolling chassis is to be 165mm. 7.3 Wheelbase is to be 176mm +/- 3mm.
- Chassis components must be commercially available.
- The chassis bottom must be flat with no protruding fixings.
- No modifications are allowed to the chassis, but edges may be smoothed, sanded, or sealed.
- 2 springs may be fitted on the front end, and up to 3 springs may be fitted to the rear.
- A solid axle must be used. No differential.
- Rolling element (ball) bearings are allowed on the front and rear axles.
All cars must maintain a ground clearance of 4mm; no screw or fitting should protrude below the bottom of the chassis.
Ground clearance is defined as follows: The club’s 4mm gauge should be able to pass under the car from front to rear and from side to side when the car is standing in race-ready condition without the car moving.
Any movement of the car, either laterally or vertically, will be deemed a failure.
Cars must weigh a minimum of 840 grams (including personal transponder, excluding handout transponder), ready to race, including bodyshell.
For use with brushless motors:
Any commercially available 2S Lipo. Solid cased racing packs only (soft cased model aircraft packs not permitted on safety grounds).
LiPo must be in a hard casing; refer to the SRCC general rules for further information on safe usage and maximum cell voltage.
For use with brushed motors:
A 4-cell Sub-C Metal Hydride battery pack may be used in “stick” or “saddle” format. These must be readily available to purchase. Batteries may be wrapped, but the club can ask for the wrapping to be removed for inspection if required.
Any commercially available RC equipment functioning on the 27 MHz, 40 MHz or 2.4 GHz bands is acceptable.
Any commercially available servo with a list price of less than £50 shall be used.
Please note that the Race Director’s decision is final in all matters concerning the eligibility of cars to run, but the prime consideration will always be safety for both the club and the venue.

Definitions
- MUST – This word, or the terms “REQUIRED” or “SHALL“, mean that the definition is an absolute requirement of the specification.
- MUST NOT – This phrase, or the phrase “SHALL NOT“, means that the definition is an absolute prohibition of the specification.
- SHOULD – This word, or the adjective “RECOMMENDED“, means that there may exist valid reasons in particular circumstances to ignore a particular item, but the full implications must be understood and carefully weighed before choosing a different course.
- SHOULD NOT – This phrase, or the phrase “NOT RECOMMENDED” means that there may exist valid reasons in particular circumstances when the particular behaviour is acceptable or even useful, but the full implications should be understood and the case carefully weighed before implementing any behaviour described with this label.
- MAY – This word, or the adjective “OPTIONAL“, means that an item is truly optional.
